This weekend I did something exotic and out of the ordinary: I country-hopped. I didn’t go to France, Germany or Amsterdam; don’t get ahead of yourselves. I travelled far and wide – to Cardiff, believe it or not, in pursuit of a dear friend’s 21st birthday celebrations.
I had a lot of fun. We drank, we danced, we dressed up: I came as Ariel from The Little Mermaid, although I’m not sure how far a green skirt and purple vest top from Primark with some persistent red hair spray (I’ve had to learn this the hard way. A full 24 hours and some serious scrubbing later has not left me any less tinged around the edges) constitutes a costume, considering the birthday girl was Russell from Up!, complete with a very impressive sash, cap and flag bearing the actual logos from the film. I’d never seen such nifty transfer paper handiwork. The end result was pretty damn good.
To top off a lovely flying visit, this morning we piled our hungover selves into a taxi for a Bill’s breakfast date (I very willingly was the fifth wheel) and I ordered a mocha which was an absolute game changer. The ratio of chocolate to coffee was absolutely spot-on and was served at perfect drinking temperature. It didn’t even bother me that everybody else happily tucked into pancakes, eggs and streaky bacon while I could only afford a drink with the change scraped together from the night before’s antics – in all honesty, I was pretty impressed with myself that I’d come home with any money at all, so it was a bit of a treat to myself anyway. So yes. Definitely 10/10 on the mocha front. Thanks Bills, I owe you one.
That was all really! Just wanted to document a really nice weekend that I’m now feeling shattered as a result of. Highlights include doing tequila with one of the boys in our party who was wearing a sombrero (considering the ‘tv and movie star’ theme I’m not 100% sure what he was going for, but I doubt he was even sure himself), striking up conversation with some lads at the bar who told me they were going to stamp out obesity in Cardiff’s children by 2020 (certainly the most unique chat-up line that’s ever been used on me), and finally learning the foolproof technique for doing a vodka jelly shot in one go. It’s been puzzling me for a good three years – or thereabouts – so not only did I have a good boozy time in Cardiff but I acquired a life skill that can surely only have a positive impact on my life from hereon in.
Until next time,
